Help on: rooms

The basic building blocks of Ishar's world are ROOMS.

Rooms all have some features in common. Rooms all have numbers which uniquely identify them. The room number is the one in parentheses immediately to the left of the room's name. All rooms have names, though not necessarily unique ones. Rooms usually have descriptions to give them a little flavor. This is not always the case though; for instance, the rooms in the libraries don't have descriptions, nor do those in the pubs. Rooms usually have exits linking them together, some with doors, but most without doors.

Some rooms have special characteristics. Some are private (only 2 people in them at a time), others are sound-proof, but most of them are not affected by any of these special conditions.

The rooms are divided into GROUPS of at most 100 rooms each. Rooms 0 to 99 are group 0, rooms 100 to 199 are group 1, 200 to 299 are group 2, and so on. Typically, each group is dedicated to a specific subject or function. For instance, group 9 is the MS DOS shareware library and group 13 is the public bulletin boards. This division makes it easy to find things and get to them. See help on the ROOMS, GROUPS and GOTO commands for more information.

The MUD is devoted to one thing only: MUDding. If you are not familiar with MUDs, let me just say that MUD is probably the finest, most entertaining and addictive multi-user computer game ever devised by the human imagination. Try it, it could change your life. See `help MUD basics' for more information.
