Help on: pkilling
If you attack another player or are attacked by another player, there are some points you should know:
- All new characters are not allowed to initiate PK until their karma gets above a certain point the first time. If you are actively playing, this usually takes around 36 hours of play time as shown by `score', which also will show whether you can attack another player and your current karma.
- By default you have `safety' turned on, which prevents you from accidentally harming another player in most situations unless you were attacked first. It doesn't protect you in any way from other people attacking you. See `help safety'.
- If you `quit' out of the game or disconnect at any time, you become invisible to mobs but are still visible to other players in the room you were last in. If you get attacked by another player and want to be get out of the game safely, you must make it to an inn and rent. To do so quickly, buy and carry a scroll of recall.
- Striking the killing blow against another player in one-on-one combat (exactly two players involved) allows you to loot any popular (as defined by rent) or unique (max 1) items from their corpse, but nothing else. Doing so will rebind the items to you, but minlevel still applies. Equipment shown in "look", "eq", etc marked with a "($)" can be looted and used by you.
- If you attack a player or cast a beneficial spell on someone who has attacked a player and the victim dies (even if not by your hand), you are charged 1/2 of a level of XP. You also lose karma; if this gets low enough, other bad things will start happening to you. See `help karma'.
- The act of attacking someone by starting combat or casting an aggressive spell on them allows them to freely retaliate. If you attack someone, they can freely retaliate (as shown to them in `consider'), kill you once, and take your best equipment without losing any XP or karma. Also, you will not be able to rent until they successfully kill you, they `forgive' you or `rent', or a mud day goes by since the last time you were in combat with them.
- PKs are still subject to other rules. If you make a habit out of killing players who don't enjoy the sport of PK, particularly people with no equipment for you, expect to get smited with no warning.
